Historical Rover Luncheon [Jan 2007]

January 26th, 2007 No comments

It just had to begin after so many years of stagnant activity and when was the last time since the rover crew had such erm….LUNCHEON?? Well, I do not know for whatever sakes it takes.

You see, I’m not in a mood of checking up dictionaries or finding for the definition of the word (Luncheon) and I pretty much do not have the time for it. So I AM taking that it has SOMETHING to do with those luncheon meats you get in cans. By the way, I know it also has something to do with lunch but who DOESN’T take them for breakfasts?

Anyway, the 2006 Form 5 scouts just had to have some get-together before the Luncheon and so we ended up arriving at school a pretty 3 hours ahead of the lunch, I mean, The Luncheon. What did we do? We entertain ourselves. No, we let the boys entertain us (and please do not get carried away with your imaginations). …… and enough about that…to the Luncheon please…

THE LUNCHEON

As enthusiastic as ever, everyone moved to the Pik Wah Restaurant and Hsien Loong got to order the foods. But then the food never came. That’s because we got a call from someone and we had to cancel that particular lunch in that restaurant so that we could try out something better than peanuts, soy sauce, tea and chilli that cost RM 26!!

So the “drivers” brought us to Salak Selatan to devour the Bak Kut Teh in that shop named “Stone Rice Something”. Don’t ask me, maybe it was due to their dehydrated rice. And we had some nice food there, so NICE that I do not remember what I ate.

THE AGENDA

Hopefully, I will somehow remember the EXACT response from Charlie after Heng Yuen joked about his car getting summon slips.

Anyway, the whole lunch meet was about the future of the Rovers. But then, first things first, we had to get all the Rovers in contact so we appointed someone to be in charge of it. He’ll be putting contacts into a database so he’ll be some kind of contacts-person, really.

Just about then, the next agenda slips in. That would be about the camp that we are going to have sometime this year. And so, a few more blokes got chosen and agreed to be in the planning committee, planning for our next Rovers Camp.

Prior to that, we have decided to have a meeting on January 26, 2007 (Saturday) so that we could discuss our next camp. First we decided on having just the camp committee members to come. But then later, we decided that anybody who is interested could come to the camp-planning meeting.

Right after that, then came a minor problem which may in turn lead to a MAJOR problem! Nothing actually, just the question of when and how often are we to meet together after that lunch. I mean, like, there’s not gonna be anymore “free lunch”, right? If I’m wrong, then probably the problem has been solved. Anyways, it’s just going to be once a month, on one of the sunny Saturdays.

****************************************************************************

Warning: This is a sequel and has nothing to do with anything above.

So after the Luncheon, we all made a move back to our alma mater, the Monkey Boys School. So what was going on in our monkey minds? Yes, climbing trees. What trees? Rambutan trees!!!

Yes, I mean, no. Yes because we went for those trees and No, because we didn’t actually climb it. 21st generation monkeys are never that dumb anymore, so we monkeys used cutters installed on one end of a long pole and went along collecting our share of Rambutans.

Little did we know, the monkeys in us were silently banging onto our hearts, wishing we could’ve just climbed onto those trees and pluck the juicy Rambutans right off those branches! *drooools*

So after that, we all had to return to our monkey base, the MBS. This time, Dominic drove the car! Don’t get me started, but I just can’t stop spilling the beans on how many times the keep “died fire“. No offense here, hope you don’t get to read this post. Anyway, I canceled the words, right? Yes I did. Later :)

Frasers Hill Camp [May 28-Jun 1]

Frasers Hill Camp 2005

2005, May 28 – June 21: Camp at Frasers Hill

Click me to view the proposed camp programme.
Click me to check out the camp food menu.

——————————————————————————————

Yay! Another camp in Frasers! ^^

So we gathered in a horseshoe on that morning, settled our equipments, (lotsa canned) rations and utensils, then get into a coach and left KL for the rest of the May. =_=

A last horsehoe before takeoff

Throughout that few hour trip, the bus driver was blasted with an infinite amount of scout songs with around 100 dB! Why didn’t he turn on the TV anyway?

Nevermind that, because there’s alot more to talk about although I can’t seem to put it in the exact chronology. First things first, we reached the Gap and had a break and some refreshments in the Gap Resthouse. Pretty old place they have there, kinda like the guest’s hall in The House of Wax. And pretty nice food they have there, it sure fills us up. Though, I won’t talk on how tasty their food was.

Snacking at the Gap Resthouse

FYI, this is just half the way

Isn’t the scenery nice, by the way?

Anyway, let’s move on to our next picture…

Moments right after the opening of the Gap gate for upflow traffic, our coach zoomed at the speed of light and..arrived at this comfy nest:

Guess humans just have to loiter around abit before acclimatizing to that sort of place where they are gonna stay for 4 days!

What’s Chi Hoe doing anyway, he’s not looking at the camera….

Despite having the need to walk around and explore stuffs, we still had to unload goods from the pumpkin carriage which brought us all the way from KL to the top of the hill. And what have we got here? Like I stated earlier “lotsa canned rations” merely meant this:

Wasn’t that much, but if you’ve taken the time to count them….then’ll I’ll reward you with some mysterious gift if you manage to get the correct answer! You’ll never be able to count them correctly, neither can you even guess it correctly! Click on the picture for a larger and clearer view!

The above image shows you where the Senior Scouts have been sleeping at. Huh? Why eggs? Because it’s the Quartermaster’s Store by the way.

Tonight’s dinner! Oh my goodness, scrambled chicken meat! ( I thought it was..)

Then, needless to say anymore:

Meanwhile…

The warden came and instructed every single prisoner there to remain silent, otherwise it’s execution time!

Keeping track of the amount food we have because our records didn’t seem to tally with what we have. Someone might have been snacking while everyone was fast asleep.

Actually, I was mapping out the QM store and split it into 6 sections:

  1. All the can foods
  2. Perishables/cooking utensils
  3. Un-perishables (e.g. rice, sugar, bread, Maggi) / marjerin, jams
  4. Equipments/eggs
  5. Shoes/guitar
  6. Bags

At last! At 9.52 pm, dinner was served. Pretty good job huh? I wouldn’t comment on that.
Scraping pots to feed the prisoners that was released from that room just now.

Meanwhile………The old boys seemed to be having some kind of better food there….*drools* *steamboat*!!

Is there enough food? I don’t know. Everybody survived the camp, that’s all I know.

Anyway, we had a songs session after gobbling up all those scrumptious Yee Mee:

Kwai Choong leads.

Choo joins in.

Weinan surprises the crowd.

Seong Bin’s turn.

Zhi Hao leaves.

Anonymous’ turn to lead. He turns around, I wonder who was that?

Oh, was that bugger Au Yong.

See? Au Yong didn’t know how to lead. Heng Yuen had to dip his hands in to correct the problem. Useless git holding that paper, buck up man!

There Ms. Raguna, our most dedicated teacher advisor was shivering….she should dance, it would warm her up. Lol.

There he goes again…tickling our hearts

Now where was the teacher? She could dance well, too bad no one recorded her dancing the Zulu Zulu.

Shortly after that, Ah Kit lead the game of erm…imagination? Someone please tell me what it was…

Then, the Hakka Dance:

Then maybe it was the patrol performances:

I don’t know why, but I can’t seem to be able to recall half the camp, so I’m merely narrating these pictures on and off….

After all that performance, everyone was tired and wanted wear. So, it was all:

..until morning

Note: The above pic was taken after the sleeping beauty pic.

Then, everyone did their morning exercise by jogging to the town centre and back, up.

While waiting for breakfast, each had their moody mood:

Well, not everyone….

Neither do they…

We had:
Sausages
Bread
Milo

But after breakfast, everyone is energetised!!

Still, Seong Bin does find time to laze around

Nevertheless, we made him walk through some pretty thick mist, right up to Silverpark, the highest resort in Fraser’s Hill:

And…We ended up in someone’s apartment.

Later on, we had a trek in I-forgot-what-was-it Trail:

Later, there were supposed to be some activities which I totally forgot about it. Anyway we were supposed to have:

Rice, spinach with minced meat and mushrooms. Egg Fooyong, braised chicken with potatoes. Salted vegetable soup. Banana.

*********************************************************************

The next day:

Sleeping bags were supposed to be the best thing to have in that camp

The Prof. Weinan (google it) putting a blade on that parang!

While Muthu checks out the SJKCFH’s library book, btw there’s still lotsa cans!

Finally, it’s time for breakfast!

And lunch!!!

Besides Chef Wan, we brought our own established Chef Chan too!! Yummy sambal !!

I doubt it was so nice to observe, I guess the stove itself is radiating much-needed heat…

Nevermind that anyway, we had something to fill our stomachs with, whatever it was. Then, it was time to set out towards a multitude of trails. The Seniors got the job of cleaning the trails, hacking away branches and obstacles while The Boy Scouts proceed with their Usaha Journey (Second-class):

A group photo before/after trail-cleaning

Boy Scouts trekking the Bishop’s Trail

This is the kind of obstacles you should expect, not more. What more with the current WTF WWF cleaning them up continually.

And by the way, we met up with the Boy Scouts halfway into the Bishop’s Trail. Then we continue cleaning up the “mess”, let the Boy Scouts pass through us and met up with them again as soon as we finish our job.

Pheew…job done! (so far as lunch is concerned), so:

Here were the Seniors itching to grabbing a bite

Here were the Eagles with Ah Kit (in black)

Some ritual where everyone gawks at the camera before food is served…

Notice the empty billycans, and the number of hands reaching towards the central point

A crowd!! Was it because of the shade? Or more food? Nope. There’s the Old Ghost.

Anyways, it’s back to work after the meal:

Then some major traffic jam

Then like after some hours of walking horr… we finally got out of the trail.

And who didn’t have cuts on his arms after going through that amount of tall thorny grass? At least, we managed to find our way out, not like those three boys that got lost in that jungle for three days. That freak incident happened just days/weeks from this camp we had.

Yeah we got out! And guess what? We found…………….

A playground…….. =_= and right away, the monkeys in Monkey Boy School broke out from within their cages

Monkeys testing out its structural stability

Another round!!!

These two grown up monkeys………sigh

Back to school, we had a teabreak and…..straight to dinner because I forgot what happened in between 5pm and 8pm………and I believe we fried some nuggets which was obviously NEVER ENOUGH!!!

Despite the desire to have more fried chicken nuggets, they still had to battle on in this:

Tug-of-War that needs only 2 smart/heavy flers.

This time, bigger and heavier flers…

After midnight, the heat went on:

Then Kuan Jhun and I performed the Maori stick dance…while Heng Yuen sings along

Lazy flers still in their comfy cocoons at 8.27am

Pancake time!!!

By noon:

The seniors are having their tactical discussion on how to crush the Boy Scouts at football

And by 5pm:

We headed towards Silverpark, and..

Pitched a tent beside an apartment ….

then went into Heng Yuen’s unit and….what did we do? I really forgot…

Anyway:

We did this….. HANDS UP!!

Hmm…too high?? HANDS UP!!!

ANOTHER HANDS UP!!

And look at this, the guy in grey would be thanking me right now….lol ..n praisin himself…XP

Anyway, it’s another Hands UP!!! So as you see, no one wins hands down in a basketball game, not like football anyway….FYI, Footballs come with a human magnet that is capable of attracting 22 humans anywhere.

Ok, so I’m not gonna elaborate on what happened before I left Silverpark.

So, I wasn’t in Silverpark at night. I was in the school we stayed. Why? What about the others? I don’t know, I guess they were starving on canned curry chicken and satays.

But I was very well fed in school, you see, they had a barbeque together with the old boys! And of course the school was warmer to sleep in, so I guess I that was why I preferred the school instead.

Anyway, Zhi Hao the photographer wasn’t mad enough to follow me back to school. So he stayed in Silverpark and took his own sweet time taking pictures, here you go:

I can’t possibly stuff anymore of those pics because this page is already being filled with TONNES of pictures, so instead, visit Frasers Hill Camp 2005 Gallery.

******************************************************************************

And so on the next morning:

We had eggs!! And probably it was the hungriest morning….notice the number of heads in the pic, where’re they staring at?

And right after breakfast, I had amnesia so you know what I mean:

Clean up time!!

And oh by the way, I remembered the apples were too much so everyone was forced to chomp down some of it.

Or else, why would anyone eat apples?

And at last! It was time to leave the “campsite” after all the fun we have had, suddenly I felt like staying for a longer time. BUT THEN, the bed at home seems more comfortable, so does the toilet.

So after some last clean up in the kitchen, we packed our stuffs to be loaded onto the coach and………

sleep……………………………………………..

Well, he wasn’t the only one…….

Look at those heads at the back….

Lullaby babies, on the coach seats…. :)

Hmm… Hui Chiang (on the left ) looks happy….muahaha

Surprisingly, it was still bright…….

snoreeees

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….

zzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZ….

And Home Sweet Home, we arrived at the school, dumped our gears, grabbed our stuffs n headed back to MBSOBA to….you know:

Hit some balls..

THAT”S ALL

THE END

Confucian Campfire [Apr 23]

April 23rd, 2005 No comments

2005, April 23: Confucian Campfire

Confucian Campfire (Gvnt) 2005

Nothing much, just wanted to voice out some opinions (or more than that).

  1. I think they invited us because we’re just next door.
  2. They forgot our troop’s name.
  3. Our troop didn’t get our share of refreshment.
  4. They asked us, “Where are y’all from?”
  5. They spoke in Mandarin most of the time. (Not that I don’t understand, but others don’t)
  6. It ended with TAPS and everyone left by 10.30pm.

The End.

Thank you very much. Want pics? Here you go:

The campfire was fun anyway where we can actually dance with other scouts. The only problem was, they have a problem with their English speaking. (Please continue for me)

P/s: I’m so sorry I had nothing to explain. No particular memory for this campfire. I need help here again! Please, someone help help complete this page!

Thank You In Advance

Catholic Night Gathering [Apr 9]

April 9th, 2005 No comments

Somewhen in April 2005, probably on the 9th, a Saturday, we went for that gathering in Catholic High School.

We met up in a stall nearby before queuing up to enter their school compound. And when we got inside, we were handed a phosphorus band, or fluorescent band or luminescent band, whatever it is called, and a bracelet I think. Then we just sat there and listened to the music that they blasted until the night fell…and that’s when the party started! Man this ain’t campfire. It’s a party cum gathering! But who’s complaining? Hehe.

We did games, enjoyed certain performances, and had to sit through the Digi advertisements while some staunch Maxis supporters shouted out MAXIS!!!! instead.

Okay there was this performance, think it was a girl singing (should be la), and the Connaught school beside us decided to show some antics and breakdanced in front of everyone…Yeah whatever. And our very Dominic Au ran towards the stage escorted by some scouts (I think), but he got shoo-ed back by the teacher-in-charge! LOL!

Anyway the whole show was okay la…quite entertaining. There was a dance too, which I couldn’t find a partner, too shy I guess. Jonathan too! He was hitting on a much-too-impossible girl that he wanted to dance with, and yeah, so he didn’t get to do so.

Nyada nyada…

THE END. I don’t remember this gathering that well nor do I have any pictures with me. Heard there was a video but I really have no idea. Anyway I welcome anyone who might have any material that could help me expand and complete this article….coz this his one heck of a short one….

*yawns*

Bye. Signing out.

40km Hike [Dec 2004]

December 31st, 2004 No comments
40 KM Hike from Gohtong Jaya to KL

Now THIS is what I call a HIKE!!

Erm…forget what you see above. That’s because What You See Isn’t What You Get! As simple as that.

But anyway, what you are GOING TO see is gonna be what you’re gonna get. Rest assured you’ll get what you see and read on…….

On December (dont-know-what-date-was-it) , some 13 energetic young blokes decided to have some fun and so they decided to follow the advice to scale the Genting Highland!! (downwards from Gohtong Jaya)

So on that day, that morning, around 10-11 in the morning, we gathered in school and made our way to the Puduraya bus station. Wait, before that, we split ourselves into two groups. So out of those 13 flers:

1st Group:

  1. Au Yong Min Hao
  2. Chaw Yuet Xin
  3. Chin Seong Bin
  4. Chia Tong Hong
  5. Julian Wong
  6. Wong Kuan Jhun

2nd Group:

  1. Dominic Au
  2. Lee Wei Sam
  3. Mok Tau Voon
  4. Tai Weinan
  5. Tan Zhi Wei
  6. Woo Weng Leong
  7. Chew Yat Chung

Anyway the two groups set out at a different times, with the 1st group hopping into a bus to Genting Highlands at an earlier time which was around noon and the 2nd group at around 3 hours after us, the first group. So we, the first group (Note: I don’t know what the 2nd group did, refer to Tai Weinan’s article), we bought tickets (RM 16.80 or was it RM4.80?) to get to Genting Highlands.

But halfway there, the wretched clouds started releasing their water content. Raincoats, we don’t have. What to do? As soon as we reached Gohtong Jaya, which is just half-hill, we changed into our casual clothes in some toilet in the bus station. Then, Seong Bin or someone else suggested we take a walk in a shopping mall(?) in search for some latex that can prevent us from being soaked to our bones.

But it was to no avail, since when does shopping malls sell raincoats (of course there is an exception), what more the one in Gohtong Jaya. So we explored again, the same thing was not to be found!

Sheesh…….Anyway, we ‘braved’ ourselves through the rain, ‘whistling’ through the raindrops. Damn,we got really wet and cold.

Die lo, if this time really get sick next camp cannot come lor….

Yalorr

Die la

Dunno ler

No one got sick anyway.

OK, so we bathed in the rain and Tong Hong even took out his towel to wrap his head. Then we walked walked walked and walked for a very loooooooong time.

Then we checked our GPS device we borrowed from our GSM. WTF!! 3.3km only!! And that was after some 1½ hours! So anyway, 36.7km more to go, within 24 hours.

6:10pm Julian is the first in front, I am at the back, writing down this sentence.

It is 20°C!!

No big deal…It’s just that you can see everyone emitting vapour from their mouths….

6:15pm We are 708 metre above sea level!!

6:20pm Some sinistrous guy wants to help us..

6:30pm We are already exhausted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *were we?* Anyway, a lorry passed by and the smoke that came out from its exhaust pipe was freaking BLACK!! The smoke never made it to the sky, it just dropped down to the wet ground, dissolved by water and the ground is looking BLACK now. Oh my gawd…that was soooo cold….*was it?*

Then after some time we checked our GPS device again. Then WTF AGAIN!! 4KM??!! @#$%!!

After all that walk? 4km+? Haha….36km more to go…

6:42pm We managed a bend and we saw a Perodua Kancil car stopping by the roadside. Then the driver in it offered us a ride uphill. Thanks!! But no thanks!! We are going downhill… =_=

7:00pm We decided take a break. So we rested by the highway, sitting on those road-fences. Then, Kuan Jhun complaint about his lethargy.

Tired la….twisted my toe also la

Rest la

So after some rest, we continued scaling Genting Highlands, downwards. Then it began to turn dark and spooky…

and hungry…….

So we sat by the road, took out some biscuits and chomped it as if they were only air

even hungrier……..

We pondered on whether or not to whip out some dishes using the solid fuels……we thought not…….probably because there were no food….

We just kept walking and walking…………

Then we noticed some field on our left.

And walked on…..

Then we reached a bridge, with some orang asli houses that has lighting! Then we saw some nice fireflies, too bad they were out of reach…T___T

Then we reached a fork!

Fork!!

Wei…Which way to go arr>?

Dunno worr

How arr?

Dunno lerr

Ask Heng Yuen la

You call la

Okay okay… I call la

Yeala! Faster!

Wait larr

Haiyoh…Rest first la

Come come, sit down here

********************************

Wei… he say take left turn worr

Haiyah, tired la….rest first la

okay okay

************************************

So dark….so spooky

Then they were lights flashing behind us!

***********************************

Eh? What’s that? Ghost arr?

Where?

NEH! There!

Ya worr, what’s that harr? Eh no la! Shyt! They’re coming ady!

YA HORR!!

So fast one they all?

ZAU AHH!! FASTER!!

FASTER!! FASTER!!

************************************

*pant..pant…*

haiyo…..phew…tired la, dowan run ady lah….

yarlo…lazy la…so tired already

wait for them la

yarlah…wait for them…

yea…so fast de?

dunno…u ask them lerr

coming ady

*********************************

WOI, how come u all so fast de?

Dunno…….you so lah

dunno you lah…..suddenly so fast one….you run arr?

No lah…..you slow lo…

Yameh?

Yahorr…we always rest…of course la

Haha

You never rest meh?

Got…abit la

YING worr….

……….

**************************************************

Then we decided to walk together……..

*Heng Yuen’s car is in front*

He then gave us 2 options, whether to head straight to KL or camp at Ulu Yam first.

Of course the sane and tired soul in us chose to rest first….so we took a left turn into Ulu Yam

Then the other group left us to walk ahead while Heng Yuen went back to talk to them.

The 1st group then walked and walked……….

We passed by a cemetery……

Haha, look to your left

HAHA……cemetery…haha

WhaT!! CEMETERY?

Yeala….haha… scared got ghost arr?

WOOI, cemetery arr….WALK FASTER LA!!

Then all of a sudden….we started running

At that time, my ankles are already aching like hell. I even had to struggle to keep my pace…. Nevertheless, kept walking…till we reached a restaurant in Ulu Yam

*Oh MY Gawd!!* *FOOD!!!* *droooooooooooolssss…….*

But we weren’t supposed to use any money…

Anyway, we continued walking again and Heng Yuen’s jeep approached us again. But this time, he came as a SAVIOUR!!! He gave us a ride to the Ulu Yam campsite !! Woohoo!! It saved the aches (for 10 minutes).

Right after reaching the campsite, we pitched the tents. Hey, wait. Where did all the tents come from? I don’t remember bringing heavy stuffs like that during the journey. God knows anyway……..

Then we cooked some stuff to eat. Wait a minute, where did the pots come from again? Oh no….suddenly popped out from nowhere.

At that time, it was already midnight! After the tents, we focused on preparing our food (which probably was Maggi).

Seong Bin then calls his mom:

Halo, ma?

Eat already arr?

Yawtf?? we’re still getting out our solid fuels

So late already, why still haven sleep one?

Ya, now sleeping already. Good nitelol…we’re still beginning to cook

Sleep well arr

okay okay, babaiomg…

Meanwhile, we managed to light up the solid fuels and were already cooking our food.

Ta-da! Food is ready!! And like Chipsmore: Now you see me, now you don’t!

After that…..lights off………….:) AT LAST!

*****************************************************************************

On the next morning, nobody wanted to wake up and get out of their tents…….My leg ached like hell.

1st group sleeps on

Nevertheless, we HAD to eat!

so:

Look closer and you’ll see that we had bread with luncheon meat and mushroom soup

Walk walk walk walk.

Took some pictures on the way….

Somewhere in between the journey, we passed by a waterfall, not the longkang-falls like the above. A real one! So we went in and filled up our water bottles and then continue our journey to wherever we’re going.

Then, we passed by the Selangor Dam (I believe it is). There, a few people flew toy airplanes and we had fun watching them. And boy, who knew what we did to the GPS. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

We reached Selayang, searched for a bus stop (which proved to be quite hard) and took a bus back to Kota Raya. That’s it. The end of the hike!!!!! Woohooo!

I tell you, this hike is crazy!! When we got down the bus our ankle basically screamed their ligamens and tendons out! But it’s really worth it. Everyone should try this at least once. Words just can not describe the extreme fun you’ll experience! Trust me.

Till next time!
